Blog #7: Making Lego-yos

Team

Since last lab, we made a few adjustments to our molds, and were able to make a yoyo! Originally in the body mold, we placed the gate on the core, but the residual plastic at the gate prevented our front and back from snapping onto the body. We got some good advice from Joe, and we able to machine a new sprue and gate on the cavity mold. For the core, we used the last couple facing paths (from our previous CAM) and set the origin 0.1" lower. We did not add back in the gate. This worked splendidly, and on Friday we had a complete yoyo! Unfortunately it wobbles when the thermoformed sheet is in place, so we are considering adding a weight to the front. Luckily, our yoyo is on the lighter side, so adding weights will fix the wobbling and give our users a better yoyo experience. also have a nicer feel for our users.
